GATE 2025 Eligibility Criteria

Nationality

To apply for GATE 2025 the candidate must be of Indian nationality. Candidates from other countries like Nepal, Bangladesh, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Ethiopia and United Arab Emirates are also eligible for the GATE exam.

Educational Qualification 

Students who have already completed any government approved degree program in engineering, technology, architecture, science, commerce or arts are eligible to appear for the GATE 2025 examination. Along with this, students who are still studying in the third year or final year of any undergraduate course can also apply for GATE examination.

Candidates residing in countries like Nepal, Bangladesh, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Ethiopia and United Arab Emirates are eligible to apply for GATE. All candidates from these countries must have completed their graduation or be in their final year or pre-final year of their bachelor’s degree in Engineering and Technology or equivalent.

GATE 2025 Exam Pattern 

The exam pattern is another set of information that is important. Every candidate is advised to check the exam pattern to get an idea before starting the preparation for the exam. The examination pattern of GATE 2025 is given below:

  • Marking scheme: You get 1 mark for each right answer
  • Negative Marking: No marks will be deducted for wrong answers in numerical type questions and negative marks will be deducted in MCQ questions.

  • Sections: 2 sections

The marking scheme for the GATE Exam 2025 is given below:

  • 1 mark MCQs: 1/3 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer.
  • MCQs carrying 2 marks: 2/3 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer.
  • There is no negative marking in Multiple Choice Questions (MSQ) and Numeric Answer Type (NAT) questions.
  • 1/3rd marks will be deducted for wrong answers, i.e. 0.33 marks for 1 mark questions and 0.66 marks for 2 mark questions.
  • No marks will be deducted for incorrect answers to NAT questions.
