UPSC 2024 Eligibility Criteria

  3. A Tibetan refugee who is came to India before 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settled in India, or
  4. A person of Indian origin who has come from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, the East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settledown in India.

Educational Qualification: Every candidates should have a graduation degree from a recognized university. Candidates in the final year of graduation can also apply provisionally, but must submit proof of passing the degree examination before the specified date.

Number of Attempts: The number of attempts permitted varies depending on the category of the candidate:

  • General Category: Six attempts
  • OBC Category: Nine attempts
  • SC/ST Category: There is no restriction on the number of attempts until the upper age limit is met. (Excluding exempt categories)

Physical Fitness: Candidates must meet specific physical and medical standards to be eligible for certain services such as the Indian Police Service (IPS) and Indian Forest Service (IFOS).

UPSC 2024 Exam Pattern

The UPSC Civil Services Exam consists of three stages, each stage serves a different purpose in the selection process. The 3 stages of the UPSC CSE exam pattern are as follows:

UPSC Prelims 2024 Exam Pattern

Prelims is the first stage of UPSC CSE and is objective in nature (Multiple Choice Questions).

It comprises two papers:

  • Paper-II: Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) – 200 marks

UPSC 2024 Interview 

Candidates who have qualified UPSC 2024 Mains will be called for personal interview round. It assesses the personality, communication skills, leadership qualities and overall suitability of the candidate for a career in the civil services.

The personality test is conducted by a panel of experts and consists of 275 questions.

The final selection of the candidates is based on the total marks obtained in the main examination (written) and personal interview. The preliminary exam is considered a screening test and its marks are not added to the final merit list.
